In a system where most primary care physicians have over 3000 patients and must see at least 30 individuals daily, patients often feel like mere numbers. Waiting for hours only to be seen for a brief 15-minute appointment, sometimes with practices insisting on addressing just one issue per visit, is a frustrating experience. Moreover, patients have to navigate various obstacles, such as prior authorizations, copays, and co-insurance, to receive the care they have paid for and deserve. If the issue cannot be resolved within the allotted time, patients are referred to multiple specialists who may also lack the time to listen to their concerns.
Our own family's experience of paying a $2000 monthly insurance premium, a $500 ER copay, and a $2300 bill was a turning point that compelled us to make a drastic change to help patients in similar situations.
